Slurry pumps are widely used, and the conveyed media are becoming more and more complex. While we are required to reduce the wear of the slurry pump, we also have strict requirements on the sealing of the slurry pump. If the sealing performance is not good, many media will leak. , resulting in unnecessary losses.

Therefore, sealing is a top priority. Here are three types of sealing form for slurry pumps: Packing seal, Expeller seal, and Mechanical seal.


Packing seal

The most common form of sealing is to continuously inject certain pressure water into the packing by injecting shaft sealing water to prevent the pump body from leaking out. For multi-stage tandem pumps that are not suitable for use with expeller seals, packing seals are used.

Slurry pump packing seal has simple structure, convenient maintenance and low price.


Expeller seal

The slurry is prevented from leaking out by means of a reverse centrifugal force of the expeller. When the positive pressure value of the pump inlet is not more than 10% of the pump outlet pressure value, the first-stage pump of the single-stage pump or the multi-stage series pump can use the expeller seal. The auxiliary expeller seal has the advantages of no need for shaft seal water, no dilution of the slurry, and good sealing effect.

This type of sealing can therefore be considered where dilution is not allowed in the slurry.

Mechanical seals are used when the sealing requirements are relatively high. Especially in some chemical and food fields, not only sealing is required, but also extra media is not allowed to enter the pump body.

The disadvantage of the mechanical seal of the slurry pump is that the cost is high and the maintenance is difficult.
